three-dimensional, and is defined by either physical or visual boundaries.
Renaissance spaces were in proportion and symmetrical with large open
spaces and a small amount of furniture. The use of the columns, vaulted arches,
domes and arcades added to the spacious feeling of the renaissance. The
ideal church plan was centralized, it was symmetrical around a central point,
a square, or a Greek cross. Many Renaissance architects believed that the
circle was the most perfect geometric form and, therefore, most appropriate for
a perfect Architecture. The floor plan below shown
below shows Villa, Mira, near Venice,
designed by Palladio. The symmetry and proportion can be seen and everything
centralized around the central cross shape.
